Propagation of
some cold growing orchids from seed is routine today.
However, it is not very easy and needs some hands-on experience and technical equipment.
We are lucky to have right equipment.
This enables us to propagate our plants in better conditions, which result in a higher succes rate.
Same
as tropical orchids, the seeds are sown on a sterile agar-based medium without symbiotic fungi.
After the seeds have germinated, they are replated
several times on a a new agar-based growing medium.
When
the seedlings are large enough and have developed shoots and roots, they
get a cold treatment of at least 3 months. Now they can be planted out in
a suitable substrate.
Most seedlings need another 3- to 10 years before reaching maturity.
